Well, I have finally had it with ixwebhosting and have moved over to hostingfest.com. If you were a frequent visitor to this site then you know how often we had problems, and so far hostingfest has been like a dream come true. I look forward to many more years of a great relationship with this company and highly recommend them (on one week's use) to anyone looking for windows hosting. I get ASP.NET 3.5 now too! Woot!

Also, the SVG server has been chosen for Issue 12 and it is Virtue! Head over to the SVG Page now to signup if you are interested in playing City of Villains with Derek Sweet and other CoZ regulars.

|
Who is Chuckling Darwin? He's Derek Sweet's alter ego in the online virtual world, Second Life (www.secondlife.com). Second Life is a completely free experience unless you want to own land in the game, so it won't cost you a thing to come watch Chuckling (me) perform standup comedy at the Last Laugh Comedy Club. Every sunday night, I will be performing live in the Second Life world complete with voice and a virtual stage. If enough of you guys show up then it will turn into a CoZ podcast and we'll talk about the comic and the characters each week, and I will record it and put up a section of the site for archives. So I'd love to see you guys come down and turn this into something special!

Here's instructions on how to get to the show. Head over to www.secondlife.com and create an account. Once you've downloaded the software and completed the tutorial you'll find yourself dumped into a horrible mess of a world. Click the "Search" button at the bottom, go over to the "Places" tab, and type in "Last Laugh" and click "Search". You should only get one result, the "Last Laugh Comedy Club". Select it, then click "Teleport" and you're there. Someone there will help you get the voice stuff setup if you need help, and you're all fairly experienced gamers so moving around should be natural.

Hope to see you guys there, especially all the comments regulars! :)

It's true! Here's the link!

Before I get into the sappy stuff, you gotta check out Roan's deviantart site. There you will find, not only fantastic process sketches of the issue 3 pages, but also a bunch of his other artwork. Go look now! It's rad!

Well, I'm not quite sure what to say, and for a guy like me that's a rare thing. Roan (yes, his real name is Roan, not Craig, which is a much less cool name) and I have been working on that 3rd issue for so long it seems surreal. It feels really amazing to be writing this, because for a long time there I was convinced this day would never come. It MEANS something that it was finished. I don't know how else to explain it to you. If you've ever tried to work with someone artistically you know what I'm saying. It's hard, and when things get done, when they turn out the way everyone wanted, something really incredible has happened. We gotta keep riding that wave, man...

Thank you, everyone. I'm under no delusion as to the size of this community, I know how small it is and I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean a whole lot. But the fact that all of you are here, to share this with us at this point in time, means the world.

Oh yeah, and because I'm a shameless self-promoting hack, make sure you check out my 2nd standup video and be sure to favorite and 5-star it!

Here is the first video I've made of my best stand-up material. This was my 3rd time on stage at Yuk Yuk's Calgary, December 18th 2007. I had a really fun time, and even the point where I forgot what I was doing got some laughs so I lucked out big time with this performance. PLEASE head over to youtube and signup/login to vote/favorite the video. I have written this webcomic for 3+ years now and I have never asked for anything in return for providing you with free entertainment, now I'm asking that you help me out by taking 2 minutes to vote for the video to help increase my online presence. Here is the video:

A big congratulations goes out to the two winners of the costume contest, the creators of King Chicken and Melon Man! There were TONS of great entries and it was really hard to pick, but in the end I choose the two that I thought best served comedic purposes in the comic. Had I known I was going to do this I would have told you in advance but it was a last minute decision, and if that's exactly what the winners thought I would do then they deserve to win for knowing what my brain would decide before I did. I will be in contact with you guys via email soon to discuss the prizes. Also, just because you didn't win this contest doesn't mean you can't expect your hero/villain to show up in CoZ one day. I will use all the entries as my templates for future heroes or villains in the comic, but they won't be as principal of characters as these two will be. Congrats again to the winners!

You'll notice that today's comic makes mention of two heroes standing in Atlas Square calling for citizens to help on a mission. How would YOU like to be one of those two heroes (and get a time card while you're at it!)?

That's right! We're having a costume contest! Now, I know what you're thinking. Another costume contest? Well, I like to think that this one has a pretty special prize. Your hero will be a major part of the current storyline and will be immortalized forever in Internets history as a CoZ character! Not only that, but you'll also receive a time card for one month of play! OMFG send those screens in now!

In order to submit your hero/villain screenshot, send an email to derek@dereksweet.com with the screenshot as a file attachment. Please just send a standard shot of your character from the front, standing still, with their arms at their side. If the back of the costume is important you can send a shot of that as well. It doesn't matter what your hero looks like or what gender they are, just send in your favorite costume and you could win! Two lucky people will walk away with a role in the comic and a time card, so send in those screens today! The two heroes will appear for the first time on September 20th, so the deadline for your submissions is 11:59PM PST September 18th.

A HUGE thank you to John Vander Weit III for passing on the cityofzeroes.com domain. The site has been running from cityofzeroes.net for a long time and it's really fantastic to finally get the .com domain. Thanx again John! You rule the Internets!

In other news, City of Zeroes will definitely be appearing in the City Scoop publication on a twice-per-month basis. I will be skipping every second thursday's update to draw a comic for City Scoop, but I will be sure to link you to them from a new section of the website coming soon. The City Scoop CoZ's will have better drawings and a completely seperate storyline from the comics here, so once they start appearing there be sure to read them or you'll miss out on more CoZ humor!

I'm happy to announce that a new mirror has been launched for City of Zeroes over at Warcry. I have long been a fan of Warcry some I am really glad to see the comic mirrored there. They have done a really great job building the interface for it and give me all the access I need to update it myself which I LOVE! Thanx so much to Matt Llow and everyone else who helped get this going!

I have officially decided to change my alias to '3vol' from 'Evol Advocate'. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, I no longer believe devil's advocacy to be a good way of discerning whether and argument is valid or not since usually the person who is more skilled in rhetoric wins the debate. It rarely has anything to do with the argument or position taken. Secondly, with the 3 being a backwards E, and the letters 'v', 'o', and 'l' being palindromic characters, the alias spells 'Love' backwards which I think is pretty cool.

So, I have retroactively changed all my previous comments on the site to reflect the new alias. I'm putting up this news item so that there is as little confusion as possible, should anyone even care. :)

I am very happy to announce that my new comic series "Punny Comics", a joint venture between myself and Sean Othan, is launching today. If you're a fan of punny humor then head over to punnycomics.com right away.

| Please do not worry that Punny Comics is replacing City of Zeroes as my #1 dedication. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are not to be released on any formal schedule so that definitely makes it easier. I know I have been missing many CoZ updates lately because of my work on this new comic, but that should all stop now and regular CoZ updates shall resume.

Sorry everyone. I thought I would find the time to update while I'm down here in Mexico but just having way too much fun and my posse would never let me live it down if I left the bar to go geek out on my computer. See you all in the new year, and Merry Xmas and all that. Love you guys and wish you all the best.

New additions from the old site include an extensive photography section and details on my involvement in the development of Dragon's Lair for PC. Plus, the front page is a musical instrument! Sheet music to be hidden somewhere, soon.. |

I spent the entire night last night outside Best Buy for 8 hours in -10 degree C weather waiting to get a Wii. I got it, and a second controller, but between not sleeping and jumping around like a maniac all day I have no energy for comic update. Sorry, and see you all on Thursday. Funny stuff coming.
